mlk

This year the West Virginia University Center for Black Culture and Research is sponsoring the MLK Unity Breakfast. It will take place in the Mountainlair Ballrooms at 8:00 a.m. on Monday January 20, 2020.

The Breakfast is an opportunity for the WVU and greater Morgantown communities to come together to celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , and to recognize those in our community who have worked to uphold the  principles of equity and social justice that he lived and gave his life for.

Keynote Speaker: Eugene Napoleon

HUMBLE BACKGROUND:

By all accounts, it seemed Eugene Napoleon had the cards stacked against him as he grew up in the Marion Garden Housing Projects located in Jersey City, New Jersey.  In most cases, some would view this as a hardship, but not Napoleon. Instead, he continued to dream of great things, and set for himself two important goals for his life; to one day play professional football, and to ultimately become a successful business owner. With hard work and determination, he established himself as a standout student-athlete at St. Joseph’s high school, located in West New York, New Jersey. Eugene Napoleon was one of the most highly recruited running backs in the nation coming out of high school. He made seven high school All-American teams and was rated the number 13th best running back in the country and was rank the third best running back on the East Coast by the Tom Lemming Report.  After accepting a full scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh, Napoleon decided to transfer to West Virginia University where he enjoyed a successful college football career; topping it off with being a major part of the 11-0 undefeated football team that played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship.  Napoleon signed a licensing deal with Retro Brand, and his number 33 Retro football jersey can be purchased at the Book Exchange on campus at West Virginia University among other locations.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE:

The reality of playing professional football came true for Eugene Napoleon as he played for the Tampa Storm and the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League (AFL). The highlight of Napoleon’s professional career was playing in the Arena Bowl for the Championship in his rookie season.  After playing in the Arena Football League, Napoleon signed a contract to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Napoleon’s football career was cut short due to injury. After retirement from professional football, Napoleon went to Wall Street. He worked for Refco which was a New York based financial services company primarily known as a broker of commodities and futures contracts.  Prior to its collapse in October, 2005, the firm had over $4 billion dollars and approximately 200,000 customer accounts and was the largest broker firm on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Napoleon learned a great deal from this experience which helped to form his own business blueprint. He went on to become the CEO / President of Nap Records, Nap Sports and currently Nap Vision Entertainment, LLC. Under Napoleon’s leadership and vision, all of his companies have celebrated many years of success. Napoleon has over 23 plus years of experience in the music / sports entertainment business.  He is personally involved with marketing, promotions, contract negotiations, special events, speaking engagements, endorsement opportunities and consultant work. In 2005 alone, Napoleon represented the MVP of the WNBA, Sheryl Swoopes, co-represented the U.S. Open LPGA Golf Champion, Birdie Kim, along with a member of the MLB White Sox World Series Championship Team, Timo Perez. Napoleon also was the agent for Main Event of the Street Basketball Team (AND-1). He represented 80 percent of the entire roster over a four year period. Napoleon managed the Platinum R&B group, Total formerly of Bad Boy Records. Total, was a major reason for the overall success of the 2016 Live Nation Bad Boy Reunion Tour. Napoleon currently manages his wife, Tracey Napoleon aka Ny’a. She is a Gold selling recording artist; her album, Something for Everybody was Grammy Considered. She was named the 2019 R&B Soul Artist of the Year by R&B Soul Effect TV. He also manages, Kenny Black “The Music Machine” who is a Grammy Nominated music producer, and Grammy Nominated recording artist. Napoleon has successfully negotiated (13) worldwide distribution deals during his career in the music business. His Inside the Jersey Eugene Napoleon documentary is currently available on Amazon Prime among other digital streaming outlets.
