Applications for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship are now open. The deadline to apply is December 13 by 5:00 p.m. through WVU Engage.

An MLK Jr. Scholarship recipient receives their award on stage at the MLK Jr. Unity Breakfast.

An applicant must be a WVU full-time undergraduate student, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, have financial need (determined by the WVU office of Financial Aid), and submit a completed application to include an essay, resume and two letters of recommendation. The recipient will accept the scholarship at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast on January 18, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Applicant Criteria

  • Be a full-time student
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (as determined by the WVU Office of Financial Aid)

Nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award are now open. The deadline to nominate is December 13, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. through WVU Engage.

An MLK Jr. Achievement Award winner receives their plaque on stage.

A nominee must reside in West Virginia, have established record of community involvement, and have demonstrated record working to fullfil the dreams and ideas of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The nominator must submit a completed nomination form to include a two page statement of support and two additional letters of recommendation. The recipient will accept the award at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast.

The awardee must be a resident of West Virginia and must have, or be making a substantial contribution in the advancement of such concerns as: civil rights, human rights, humanitarianism, social action and advocacy, civility, improving the human condition, acting as a change agent for an inclusive and equal society for all people, etc. Each year the Martin Luther King Achievement Award Committee makes their selection based on the applications we receive at the Center for Black Culture.
