To All Residents of the State of West Virginia:
On Monday, January 20, 2020 (8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.) in the WVU Mountainlair Ballrooms the prestigious Martin Luther King, Jr. Achievement Award will be presented during the 30th Annual MLK Unity Breakfast, to the nominee from the state of West Virginia who best exemplifies one who is working to fulfill the commitment of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The awardee must be a resident of West Virginia and must have, or be making a substantial contribution in the advancement of such concerns as: civil rights, human rights, humanitarianism, social action and advocacy, civility, improving the human condition, acting as a change agent for an inclusive and equal society for all people, etc. The Awards Committee will make their selection based on the applications we receive at the WVU Center for Black Culture & Research. 2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Award

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to a West Virginia University undergraduate student who has demonstrated an active interest and meaningful involvement in areas of human rights, civil lights, social justice and/or world peace, or other activities exemplary or reflective of the ideals and life of Dr. King.
The recipient of the award will be announced on Monday, January 20, 2020 during the 2020 MLK Unity Breakfast (8 a.m. -10:30 a.m.), in the WVU Mountainlair Ballrooms. The full amount of this award ($ 1,000) will be applied to the 2020/2021 financial aid package of the recipient in the amount of $500 per semester.
Eligibility
Preference will be given to African American students.
Must be a full-time sophomore or junior at West Virginia University who is seeking her/his first undergraduate degree o Must possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher o Must have financial need (as determined by the WVU Office of Financial Aid)
